Our Family Trip to Flagstaff

We recently took a trip to Flagstaff in hopes of finding some fall, but were greeted surprisingly with a little taste of winter! Flagstaff had their first snow of 2021the day we drove up, and so we were able to enjoy the leftover remnants of this early snow storm. It was chilly weather, which is exactly what we were hoping for.

We were so lucky to stay at the most perfect cabin, The Rustic Tuckaway, and enjoyed cooking in rather than going out. This cabin was a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom + loft cabin, with plenty of space for entertaining. If you’ve got a larger crew, you could easily bring air mattresses to accommodate a larger group. It was beyond cozy. There was a hot tub, but we didn’t get the chance to use it. That’ll have to wait until our next visit!

Our friends Sylvia, Sam and Ruby came over for dinner our first night in. We ordered soup from Cornish Pasty – because it was most definitely soup weather! We had a blast hanging out and getting the chance to take our first night in town slow and easy with friends.

We went all over Flagstaff during our one full day of adventure. We started our morning off at Lockett Meadow. Lockett Meadow is the dreamiest spot to see the aspens, and I’ve always wanted to visit to get a good look myself. Because of the snow storm, we got to see the last of the vibrant yellow aspen leaves, but got to experience it all with snow on the ground. It was so beautiful and the lighting was magical!

After our hike and time around Lockett Meadow, Max took a nap in the car as we drove to the opposite, western side of Flagstaff, to head up to the ski/snowboard spot; Snowbowl. We were just planning on driving, but saw a sign for a gondola ride. After looking it up, Matt and I decided we “HAD” to do it, and bought tickets online. We enjoyed lunch at the restaurant before our gondola ride, and Max got to watch snow tractors at work. He is currently obsessed with them and so it was definitely his favorite part.

We had a wonderful trip and although it was short, it seemed perfect! Can’t wait to get back and enjoy the beautiful Rustic Tuckaway soon.
